Episode 12: Maine (Part I)

Episode 12: America’s Forests in Maine - Past, Present, Future

America’s Forests with Chuck Leavell celebrates our nation’s woodlands. On this episode, Chuck visits Maine – the most forested state in the USA. Chuck begins his journey through Maine with a Wabanaki native guide. He goes fly-fishing at the base of Katahdin where private lands welcome public visitors. He visits a state-of-the-art factory making building insulation out of wood chips and tries his hand at competitive tree-felling at the Game of Logging. And he finishes up playing rollicking old-time logging songs given new life by contemporary musicians.

America’s Forests captures the breadth of our nation’s woodlands – both public and private. We feature different stories that demonstrate how #forest habitats are to the well-being and economic health of communities across the country. In this series, we present individuals who embody this passion for the woods, from architects to artists, from climbers to carpenters, and from #foresters to #treefarmers.

We celebrate US forests and to advocate for their constructive management, we propose a communications campaign centered on a broadcast television documentary series for PBS and multi-faceted social media outreach.
